ABOUT MY PRACTICE
Hi, I’m Heather Zuckerman, LCSW
I live in Garrison, NY and I practice therapy in NY virtually and in person. I specialize in helping people who are are experiencing life transitions ages 6 and up. This includes going through anxiety, relationship problems with family and friends, and experiencing the dysregulation and disruption emotionally, and physically from trauma.
About My Approach
Change and everyday life events are difficult and overwhelming at any age. You feel stuck, and unable to think clearly. Anxiety, depression, mood swings, and the heavy weight of stress may be getting in the way of thinking clearly and being the person you want to be. Picture what it would look like to have a more positive, and stress-free life where you can move forward. I work with children and adults through issues to help cope with anger, mood swings and problems with family, friends and school and work relationships. Interventions that I utilize are EMDR, DBT and CBT based on the client.
MY BACKGROUND
I have always been fascinated with narratives and am the type of person who strangers share their stories with in detail. Before becoming a therapist, I worked in advertising and this background allowed me to understand thoughts, feelings and motivations to buy certain brands. With this training and being a Mom to two small girls, I decided to pivot and get my Masters in Social Work from Fordham University.
After graduating, I worked at Saint Basil Academy where I was the Associate Clinical Director providing individual, family, and group therapy in a residential setting for children and adolescents suffering from complex trauma and the other mental health issues related to trauma. In this setting I focused on trauma based therapy, relational therapy, play therapy, and mindfulness techniques.
With a strong foundation treating mental health issues , I opened my private practice in Garrison, NY. My background treating kids and their parents has allowed me to see a wide range of clients with anxiety from life transitions, ADHD, depression and trauma.Seeing the affects of trauma on my clients, I decided to get certified in EMDR .
In addition to being a therapist, I am a Mom to two girls and have the knowledge, experience and insight on what girls expereince as they develop from anxiety, feelings of not being good enough, and being left out. My goal is to help young women feel confident, and heard. I also have a havapoo named Quincy.
I woud love to learn more about YOU and what is bringing you to therapy.
